Charger-power-for-electric-vehicles

One of the main concerns of electric vehicle users is charging time. In this respect, we are seeing many advances in different fields that will make it increasingly shorter, while at the same time protecting the car’s components and extending the life of the battery.

But the speed at which a vehicle is charged is also determined by the power of electric vehicle chargers. Today we explain what is the power of electric chargers, how a high-power charger works and what are the different types and models that exist. Of course, at Floox you will find the ones with the highest capacity and charging speed.

What is the power of an electric charger?

Charging power is the amount of energy that can be put into the battery per hour. This depends on three factors: the connection you have established with the electricity grid, the charging station you have installed in your business, and the limitations imposed by each electric vehicle to manage its battery.

Of these three elements, the most limiting will be the one that determines the maximum charging power you can supply to the vehicles.

What are high power chargers?

High-power electric vehicle chargers are those that provide DC power using standard CHAdeMO connectors to charge a vehicle in a short time.

For a charging station to be considered high power, it must transfer energy at a minimum rate of 40 kW, although today we can find chargers on the market that reach up to 350 kW. In the case of Floox, our chargers range from the 30 kW of the Powerfloox to the 180 kW of the Ultrafloox.

Benefits of installing high-power chargers in your business

In our blog we have already commented on other occasions on the benefits of installing an electric charger in your business, as you will attract a new type of visitor and offer a different service to stand out from the competition.

It’s not just the public benefits you’ll see: you’ll see internal benefits if you have a transport fleet. The fuel savings and reduction of your carbon footprint will improve your business profitability as well as your brand image.

It should also be noted that Floox charging solutions are smart. They can offer simultaneous charging for two vehicles at the same time.

Types of chargers for electric vehicles according to their power output

Fast-charging stations for electric vehicles

These are charging stations that go beyond the first existing slow-charging models and work with direct current to offer around 50 kWh for vehicle charging. The PowerFloox model fits into this group.

Super-fast charging stations

By increasing the charging power up to 60 kWh, super-fast charging stations offer a speed to complete 80% of an average battery in about 45 minutes. Superfloox is our charging station that works within these parameters.

Charging stations for ultra-fast charging electric vehicles

The best charging stations currently available work under very high power parameters, which are ready to supply power to any vehicle of today and the next few years in record time. The model we have on the market is UltraFloox.

PowerFloox

The simplest Floox model is a great option for many businesses. It features a fast-charging system that can reach 30 kW of direct current, and can work with CHAdeMO and CCS2 connector types.

Thanks to its small size (less than one square metre), it is very low maintenance and can offer visitors fast charging for electric vehicles at no great cost.

This is why we recommend PowerFloox to businesses where the customer is likely to spend around an hour or an hour and a half. For example, restaurants, gyms, car parks or shopping centres are ideal locations, as are workshops or commercial fleet car parks.

SuperFloox

SuperFloox has the capacity to charge up to three vehicles at the same time, two of them with 60 kW of direct current (balancing between the two: 30kW for each in the case of two vehicles) and an optional third hose, of alternating current, which reaches 22 kW.

This super fast charging station becomes a perfect model to offer different solutions to some businesses such as petrol stations, vehicle dealers, transport fleets and PoR operators; as they offer a fast charging format with high capacity.

UltraFloox

The most advanced model we have on the market is UltraFloox, which also incorporates simultaneous charging of two vehicles and works with different power ratings of 90, 120, 150 or 180 kW in direct current. Its features make it very fast, but not only with today’s cars, but with everything that awaits us in the future.

It is because of this high capacity and power that we recommend the UltraFloox, as well as its medium-sized SuperFloox sibling, for petrol stations, dealers, transport fleets and PoR operators. Vehicles requiring ultra-fast charging will find that, in just 15 minutes, their battery can reach 80% of full capacity.
